If you are in doubt, you can always check the application by doing a search for her name in Google, Yahoo or Bing. Remove Akamaihd adware virus from Firefox

If the FF settings such as start page, new tab page and search provider by default have been modified by the adware, then resetting it to the default state can help.

First, run the Mozilla Firefox and press Firefox menu button button. It will display the drop-down menu on the right-part of the browser. Further, click the Help button (FF help button) as displayed in the following example

Another way to open the “Troubleshooting Information” screen – type “about:support” in the internet browser adress bar and press Enter. It will display the “Troubleshooting Information” page like below. In the upper-right corner of this screen, press the “Refresh Firefox” button.

It will display the confirmation prompt. Further, click the “Refresh Firefox” button. The Mozilla Firefox will start a process to fix your problems that caused by the Akamaihd virus that causes unwanted popup advertisements. Once, it’s finished, press the “Finish” button.

Delete Akamaihd adware from Internet Explorer

In order to recover all web-browser newtab page, start page and search engine by default you need to reset the IE to the state, that was when the Microsoft Windows was installed on your computer.

First, start the Microsoft Internet Explorer, then click ‘gear’ icon Internet Explorer tools menu icon. It will open the Tools drop-down menu on the right part of the internet browser, then click the “Internet Options” as displayed on the screen below.

In the “Internet Options” screen, select the “Advanced” tab, then press the “Reset” button. The IE will open the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” prompt. Further, press the “Delete personal settings” check box to select it. Next, press the “Reset” button as on the image below.

When the procedure is finished, click “Close” button. Close the Microsoft Internet Explorer and restart your computer for the changes to take effect. This step will help you to restore your browser’s start page, newtab page and search engine by default to default state.

Remove Akamaihd virus from Chrome

Reset Chrome settings is a easy way to remove the adware virus, harmful and adware extensions, as well as to restore the web-browser’s start page, newtab and default search engine that have been modified by Akamaihd redirect virus that causes multiple annoying advertisements and pop ups.

Select the “Properties” option and it will display a shortcut’s properties. Next, press the “Shortcut” tab and then delete the “http://site.address” string from Target field as on the image below.

Then press OK to save changes. Repeat the step for all internet browsers that are rerouted to the Akamaihd undesired page.

Remove unwanted Scheduled Tasks

If the unwanted Akamaihd web site opens automatically on Windows startup or at equal time intervals, then you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and delete all the tasks that have been created by ‘ad-supported’ program.

Press Windows and R keys on the keyboard at the same time. This shows a dialog box that titled as Run. In the text field, type “taskschd.msc” (without the quotes) and click OK. Task Scheduler window opens. In the left-hand side, press “Task Scheduler Library”, as shown in the figure below.

In the middle part you will see a list of installed tasks. Please choose the first task, its properties will be display just below automatically. Next, click the Actions tab. Pay attention to that it launches on your computer. Found something like “explorer.exe http://site.address” or “chrome.exe http://site.address”, then delete this harmful task. If you are not sure that executes the task, check it through a search engine. If it is a component of the malicious application, then this task also should be removed.

Having defined the task that you want to get rid of, then press on it with the right mouse button and select Delete as displayed in the following example.

Repeat this step, if you have found a few tasks that have been created by ‘ad-supported’ applications. Once is finished, close the Task Scheduler window.

    Just fix the Akamaihd problem by changing the DNS setting back to google DNS.
    Apparently the virus will change your DNS setting too
