According to security specialists, SearchConverters is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that belongs to the category of browser hijackers. SearchConverters imposes changes to your internet browser’s settings, including new tab, search provider and start page, and installs a browser plugin deep inside your personal computer. This is the main reason why you need to remove it from your computer and return your internet browser search engine and start page back to the default.
When you’re performing searches using the web browser that has been affected by SearchConverters, the search results will be returned from Bing, Yahoo or Google Custom Search. The makers of the SearchConverters browser hijacker are most probably doing this to make advertisement revenue from the advertisements shown in the search results.
Another reason why you need to get rid of SearchConverters is its online data-tracking activity. It can collect confidential data, including:
- IP addresses;
- URLs visited;
- search queries/terms;
- clicks on links and advertisements;
- browser version information.
How can SearchConverters get on your personal computer
SearchConverters like other PUPs can get added to your browser or computer when you visit a web-page and click an Install button, or when you download and run a suspicious program, or when you install freeware that includes a potentially unwanted application (PUA). Be very attentive when installing any applications and make sure you deselect any options for bundled applications that you do not want.
