Q. Putlocker pop-up ads. I just received unwanted pop up ads on my desktop. Does someone have advice about the ads? Thanks for any help you might be able to provide me.

A. Did it occur after installing any new programs? What were you doing before these pop up ads first occurred? Sounds like you have possibly encountered an adware problem. The fix for that issue is ‘reset web browser settings’ and use adware removal utilities.

What is Adware ‘virus’? Adware is something that you should be aware of even if you run Google Chrome or other modern internet browser. This is the name given to programs that have been designed to show unwanted ads and pop up deals onto your web browser screen. The reason for adware’s existence is to make profit for its creator.

Putlocker is a web-service that allows people to watch movies online for free. It uses the browser notification feature to force you and other unsuspecting users into allowing its push notifications that will in turn bombard users with unwanted adverts. It asks you to press on the ‘Allow’ button. Once you click on the ‘Allow’, the Putlocker webpage starts sending a lot of spam ads on your screen. You will see the pop up advertisements even when you are not using the browser. Push notifications are originally developed to alert the user of recently published news. Devs behind Putlocker use ‘browser notification feature’ to avoid adblocker software by presenting unwanted adverts. These advertisements are displayed in the lower right corner of the screen urges users to play online games, visit various web-pages, install browser add-ons & so on.

In order to remove Putlocker pop-up ads open the web browser’s settings, type ‘Notifications’ in the search, open ‘Notifications’ settings. Find the Putlocker, click the three vertical dots on the right (only for Google Chrome), select ‘Remove’ (‘Block’) or follow the removal guidance below. Once you remove notifications subscription, the Putlocker pop ups ads will no longer appear on your screen.

Remove unwanted pop-up ads without any tools

The following instructions is a step-by-step guide, which will help you manually remove Putlocker pop-up advertisements from the Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Edge. If you do not want to remove Putlocker ads in the manually due to the fact that you are an unskilled computer user, then you can use free removal tools listed below.

Remove recently installed adware

In order to delete potentially unwanted apps and adware, open the MS Windows Control Panel and click on “Uninstall a program”. Check the list of installed programs. For the ones you do not know, run an Internet search to see if they are adware software, browser hijacker or potentially unwanted applications. If yes, delete them off. Even if they are just a software that you do not use, then deleting them off will increase your PC start up time and speed dramatically.

Click the Windows logo, and then click Search MS Windows search. Type ‘Control panel’and press Enter as on the image below.

After the ‘Control Panel’ opens, press the ‘Uninstall a program’ link under Programs category as displayed in the figure below.

Open Start menu and choose the ‘Control Panel’ at right as shown on the screen below.

Then go to ‘Add/Remove Programs’ or ‘Uninstall a program’ (Windows 7 or Vista) as on the image below.

Carefully browse through the list of installed software and get rid of all suspicious and unknown applications. We suggest to press ‘Installed programs’ and even sorts all installed applications by date. After you have found anything suspicious that may be the adware software or other PUP (potentially unwanted program), then choose this program and press ‘Uninstall’ in the upper part of the window. If the suspicious program blocked from removal, then use Revo Uninstaller Freeware to completely remove it from your machine.

Remove Putlocker notifications from browsers

If you have allowed the Putlocker site to send spam notifications to your web browser, then we’ll need to remove these permissions. Depending on browser, you can execute the steps below to get rid of the Putlocker permissions to send push notifications.

  • Just copy and paste the following text into the address bar of Chrome.
  • chrome://settings/content/notifications
  • Press Enter.
  • Remove the Putlocker URL and other rogue notifications by clicking three vertical dots button next to each and selecting ‘Remove’.
  • Open Google Chrome.
  • In the top-right corner, find and tap the Chrome menu (three dots).
  • In the menu tap ‘Settings’, scroll down to ‘Advanced’.
  • In the ‘Site Settings’, tap on ‘Notifications’, find the Putlocker URL and tap on it.
  • Tap the ‘Clean & Reset’ button and confirm.

  • In the top right hand corner of the browser window, click on the three horizontal stripes to expand the Main menu.
  • In the menu go to ‘Options’, in the menu on the left go to ‘Privacy & Security’.
  • Scroll down to ‘Permissions’ and then to ‘Settings’ next to ‘Notifications’.
  • Select the Putlocker domain from the list and change the status to ‘Block’.
  • Save changes.
  • Click the More button (it looks like three dots) in the top-right corner of the window.
  • Scroll down, locate and click ‘Settings’. In the left side select ‘Advanced’.
  • In the ‘Website permissions’ section click ‘Manage permissions’.
  • Click the switch under the Putlocker and each dubious site.

  • Click the Gear button on the top-right corner.
  • Select ‘Internet options’.
  • Click on the ‘Privacy’ tab and select ‘Settings’ in the pop-up blockers section.
  • Locate the Putlocker site and click the ‘Remove’ button to delete the site.
  • On the top menu select ‘Safari’, then ‘Preferences’.
  • Select the ‘Websites’ tab and then select ‘Notifications’ section on the left panel.
  • Locate the Putlocker domain and select it, click the ‘Deny’ button.



Reset Mozilla Firefox settings

If the Firefox browser is redirected to unwanted web-sites and you want to recover the Firefox settings back to their default state, then you should follow the steps below. However, your saved bookmarks and passwords will not be lost. This will not affect your history, passwords, bookmarks, and other saved data.

First, open the Mozilla Firefox and click Firefox menu button button. It will display the drop-down menu on the right-part of the internet browser. Further, click the Help button (Firefox help button) like below.

In the Help menu, select the “Troubleshooting Information” option. Another way to open the “Troubleshooting Information” screen – type “about:support” in the browser adress bar and press Enter. It will show the “Troubleshooting Information” page as displayed in the following example. In the upper-right corner of this screen, click the “Refresh Firefox” button.

It will show the confirmation dialog box. Further, click the “Refresh Firefox” button. The Firefox will start a procedure to fix your problems that caused by adware. Once, it is complete, click the “Finish” button.

Reset Chrome settings

Reset Chrome settings to remove Putlocker pop-up advertisements. If you are still experiencing issues with Putlocker pop ups removal, you need to reset Google Chrome browser to its default state. This step needs to be performed only if adware has not been removed by the previous steps.

First run the Chrome. Next, click the button in the form of three horizontal dots (Chrome menu button).

It will display the Chrome menu. Select More Tools, then press Extensions. Carefully browse through the list of installed extensions. If the list has the plugin signed with “Installed by enterprise policy” or “Installed by your administrator”, then complete the following guidance: Remove Chrome extensions installed by enterprise policy.

Open the Google Chrome menu once again. Further, click the option named “Settings”.

The internet browser will display the settings screen. Another solution to open the Google Chrome’s settings – type chrome://settings in the internet browser adress bar and press Enter

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Advanced” link. Now scroll down until the “Reset” section is visible, as shown on the image below and press the “Reset settings to their original defaults” button.

The Google Chrome will open the confirmation dialog box like below.

You need to confirm your action, click the “Reset” button. The internet browser will start the procedure of cleaning. After it is finished, the web-browser’s settings back to the values that have been when the Chrome was first installed on your computer.

Reset Microsoft Internet Explorer

In order to recover all browser settings you need to reset the Microsoft Internet Explorer to the state, which was when the MS Windows was installed on your computer.

First, open the Internet Explorer. Next, press the button in the form of gear (Internet Explorer tools menu icon). It will open the Tools drop-down menu, click the “Internet Options” as displayed below.

In the “Internet Options” window click on the Advanced tab, then click the Reset button. The Internet Explorer will show the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” window as displayed on the screen below. Select the “Delete personal settings” check box, then press “Reset” button.

You will now need to restart your machine for the changes to take effect.

When downloading is finished, close all applications and windows on your computer. Open a directory in which you saved it. Double-click on the icon that’s named Zemana.AntiMalware.Setup as displayed below.
