What is WebCobra? WebCobra is a malware. It can modify Windows OS and browsers settings, download and install other malicious software, adware and potentially unwanted programs. Removing the WebCobra, check the list of installed apps first

It’s of primary importance to first identify and remove all PUPs, ad supported software programs and hijacker infections through ‘Add/Remove Programs’ (MS Windows XP) or ‘Uninstall a program’ (Windows 10, 8, 7) section of your MS Windows Control Panel.

Once the downloading process is complete, close all windows on your system. Further, launch the file named mb3-setup. If the “User Account Control” dialog box pops up as shown in the figure below, press the “Yes” button.

It will show the “Setup wizard” which will help you setup MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) on the machine. Follow the prompts and don’t make any changes to default settings.

Once installation is finished successfully, press Finish button. Then MalwareBytes will automatically run and you may see its main window as displayed on the image below.

Next, click the “Scan Now” button . MalwareBytes tool will start scanning the whole machine to find out the WebCobra and other potential threats. Depending on your computer, the scan may take anywhere from a few minutes to close to an hour. While the MalwareBytes Anti Malware (MBAM) tool is scanning, you may see how many objects it has identified as being affected by malware.

Once MalwareBytes Anti-Malware has completed scanning your machine, MalwareBytes will show a list of all items found by the scan. Review the results once the tool has done the system scan. If you think an entry should not be quarantined, then uncheck it. Otherwise, simply press “Quarantine Selected” button.

Delete WebCobra from Internet Explorer

If you find that Internet Explorer internet browser settings had been hijacked by the WebCobra malware, then you may revert back your settings, via the reset web-browser process.

First, run the Internet Explorer. Next, click the button in the form of gear (Internet Explorer tools menu icon). It will display the Tools drop-down menu, click the “Internet Options” like below.

In the “Internet Options” window click on the Advanced tab, then click the Reset button. The Microsoft Internet Explorer will display the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” window like below. Select the “Delete personal settings” check box, then click “Reset” button.

You will now need to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

Remove WebCobra malware from Google Chrome

Another way to get rid of changes to browser settings created by WebCobra malware is Reset Chrome settings. This will disable harmful extensions and reset Google Chrome settings including start page, search provider and new tab page to original settings. Essential information such as bookmarks, browsing history, passwords, cookies, auto-fill data and personal dictionaries will not be removed.

First run the Google Chrome. Next, click the button in the form of three horizontal dots (Google Chrome menu button).

It will display the Chrome menu. Select More Tools, then click Extensions. Carefully browse through the list of installed extensions. If the list has the extension signed with “Installed by enterprise policy” or “Installed by your administrator”, then complete the following instructions: Remove Chrome extensions installed by enterprise policy.

Open the Chrome menu once again. Further, click the option called “Settings”.

The internet browser will open the settings screen. Another solution to open the Chrome’s settings – type chrome://settings in the web-browser adress bar and press Enter

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Advanced” link. Now scroll down until the “Reset” section is visible, like below and click the “Reset settings to their original defaults” button.

The Google Chrome will display the confirmation prompt as shown in the figure below.

You need to confirm your action, click the “Reset” button. The web-browser will launch the process of cleaning. After it’s finished, the web browser’s settings including home page, new tab and default search engine back to the values which have been when the Google Chrome was first installed on your personal computer.

Delete WebCobra malware from Mozilla Firefox

If Mozilla Firefox internet browser settings are affected by the WebCobra malware, then ‘Reset Firefox’ could solve this problem. It’ll save your personal information such as saved passwords, bookmarks, auto-fill data and open tabs.

First, launch the Mozilla Firefox and click Mozilla Firefox menu button button. It will show the drop-down menu on the right-part of the browser. Further, click the Help button (Mozilla Firefox help button) as on the image below.

In the Help menu, select the “Troubleshooting Information” option. Another way to open the “Troubleshooting Information” screen – type “about:support” in the internet browser adress bar and press Enter. It will display the “Troubleshooting Information” page like below. In the upper-right corner of this screen, click the “Refresh Firefox” button.

It will show the confirmation prompt. Further, click the “Refresh Firefox” button. The Mozilla Firefox will start a task to fix your problems that caused by the WebCobra malware. Once, it’s finished, click the “Finish” button.

Use AdBlocker to stay safe online
