Fix web-browser shortcuts, modified by ad supported software

Unfortunately, the ad supported software which cause intrusive popup ads to appear, can also hijack Windows shortcuts (mostly, your internet browsers shortcut files), so that the VPNTop ads will be displayed when you open the Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge or another browser.

Then press OK to save changes. Repeat the step for all web browsers which are redirected to the VPNTop ads.

Remove Ads by VPNTop from Chrome

Like other modern browsers, the Google Chrome has the ability to reset the settings to their default values and thereby recover the internet browser’s settings such as startpage, new tab and search provider by default that have been changed by the VPNTop adware which created to reroute your web-browser to various ad sites.

First run the Chrome. Next, click the button in the form of three horizontal dots (Google Chrome menu button).

It will open the Google Chrome menu. Choose More Tools, then click Extensions. Carefully browse through the list of installed add-ons. If the list has the add-on signed with “Installed by enterprise policy” or “Installed by your administrator”, then complete the following guidance: Remove Chrome extensions installed by enterprise policy.

Open the Google Chrome menu once again. Further, click the option named “Settings”.

The browser will display the settings screen. Another way to display the Chrome’s settings – type chrome://settings in the web-browser adress bar and press Enter

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Advanced” link. Now scroll down until the “Reset” section is visible, as on the image below and click the “Reset settings to their original defaults” button.

You need to confirm your action, click the “Reset” button. The web-browser will start the process of cleaning. After it’s complete, the web-browser’s settings including newtab page, homepage and search provider by default back to the values that have been when the Chrome was first installed on your system.

Remove VPNTop ads from IE

The Internet Explorer reset is great if your browser is hijacked or you have unwanted addo-ons or toolbars on your web browser, which installed by an malicious software.

First, run the Internet Explorer, then click ‘gear’ icon Microsoft Internet Explorer tools menu icon. It will show the Tools drop-down menu on the right part of the browser, then click the “Internet Options” like below.

When the task is done, press “Close” button. Close the Internet Explorer and reboot your PC for the changes to take effect. This step will help you to restore your browser’s newtab, homepage and search engine by default to default state.

Get rid of VPNTop ads from Firefox by resetting browser settings

Resetting your Firefox is basic troubleshooting step for any issues with your web browser program, including the redirect to VPNTop ads.

First, run the Mozilla Firefox and click Firefox menu button button. It will open the drop-down menu on the right-part of the browser. Further, press the Help button (Firefox help button) as displayed on the screen below

In the Help menu, select the “Troubleshooting Information” option. Another way to open the “Troubleshooting Information” screen – type “about:support” in the web-browser adress bar and press Enter. It will display the “Troubleshooting Information” page as displayed in the following example. In the upper-right corner of this screen, click the “Refresh Firefox” button.

It will open the confirmation dialog box. Further, press the “Refresh Firefox” button. The Firefox will begin a task to fix your problems that caused by the VPNTop that causes a large amount of unwanted popups. After, it’s finished, click the “Finish” button.

Remove unwanted Scheduled Tasks

If the unwanted VPNTop ads opens automatically on Windows startup or at equal time intervals, then you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and delete all the tasks which have been created by the VPNTop program.

Press Windows and R keys on your keyboard simultaneously. It will display a dialog box which called Run. In the text field, type “taskschd.msc” (without the quotes) and click OK. Task Scheduler window opens. In the left-hand side, press “Task Scheduler Library”, as shown below.

In the middle part you will see a list of installed tasks. Select the first task, its properties will be show just below automatically. Next, click the Actions tab.
