Remove Search Awesome from IE

First, launch the Internet Explorer, press Internet Explorer tools menu icon) button. Next, press “Internet Options” as displayed on the image below.

In the “Internet Options” screen select the Advanced tab. Next, click Reset button. The Internet Explorer will show the Reset Internet Explorer settings prompt. Select the “Delete personal settings” check box and press Reset button.

It will remove Search Awesome adware which cause unwanted ads to appear, disable malicious and ad-supported browser’s extensions and restore the Internet Explorer’s settings such as startpage, new tab page and search engine by default to default state.

Remove Search Awesome ads from Mozilla Firefox

If the FF web-browser application is hijacked, then resetting its settings can help. The Reset feature is available on all modern version of Mozilla Firefox. A reset can fix many issues by restoring Firefox settings like homepage, new tab and default search engine to its default state. It will save your personal information like saved passwords, bookmarks, and open tabs.

Press the Menu button (looks like three horizontal lines), and press the blue Help icon located at the bottom of the drop down menu like below.

Follow the onscreen procedure to return your Firefox browser settings to its original state.

Remove Ads by Search Awesome from Google Chrome

If your Chrome browser is rerouted to unwanted Ads by Search Awesome, it may be necessary to completely reset your browser application to its default settings.

Open the Chrome menu by clicking on the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (Google Chrome menu button). It will open the drop-down menu. Next, click to “Settings” option.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “Show advanced settings” link. Now scroll down until the Reset settings section is visible, like below and click the “Reset settings” button.

Confirm your action, click the “Reset” button.

Clean up the web browsers shortcuts which have been hijacked by ad-supported software

Important to know, most anti-malware applications which are able to get rid of ‘ad supported’ software, but unable to detect and recover changed shortcuts. So, you need to fix the desktop shortcuts for your Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Edge browsers manually.

Right click to a desktop shortcut for your web-browser. Choose the “Properties” option. It will open the Properties window. Select the “Shortcut” tab here, after that, look at the “Target” field. The adware can change it. If you are seeing something such as “…exe http://site.address” then you need to remove “http…” and leave only, depending on the web browser you are using:

  • Google Chrome: chrome.exe
  • Opera: opera.exe
  • Firefox: firefox.exe
  • Internet Explorer: iexplore.exe

Once is complete, press the “OK” button to save the changes. Please repeat this step for web-browser shortcuts which redirects to an undesired pages. When you have completed, go to next step.

Delete unwanted Scheduled Tasks

If unwanted Search Awesome ads opens automatically on Windows startup or at equal time intervals, then you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and get rid of all the tasks that have been created by adware.

Press Windows and R keys on the keyboard simultaneously. This displays a dialog box that called Run. In the text field, type “taskschd.msc” (without the quotes) and press OK. Task Scheduler window opens. In the left-hand side, click “Task Scheduler Library”, as displayed in the figure below.

In the middle part you will see a list of installed tasks. Please select the first task, its properties will be display just below automatically. Next, click the Actions tab. Pay attention to that it launches on your system. Found something like “explorer.exe http://site.address” or “chrome.exe http://site.address”, then remove this harmful task. If you are not sure that executes the task, check it through a search engine. If it’s a component of the adware, then this task also should be removed.

Having defined the task that you want to get rid of, then click on it with the right mouse button and select Delete as displayed in the figure below.

Repeat this step, if you have found a few tasks which have been created by adware. Once is done, close the Task Scheduler window.
