What is GoSearch22

GoSearch22 is supposed to be an application that will improve the browsing experience, but according to security experts, this program is an adware. Adware can cause problems for your MAC. GoSearch22 can show unwanted adverts on your computer screen so that your cannot block them, redirect your web-browser to shady web-sites, and it can cause malicious webpages to pop up on your internet browser. According to the security researchers, the updated version of the GoSearch22 virus contains native ‘Arm64’ code that allows the virus to run on the most modern Apple computers based on M1 chips. Thus, this virus is able to run its code on the following MAC computers: Mac mini (2020), MacBook Air (2020), and MacBook Pro 13″ (2020). Based on the above, it seems that this virus is the first malware that can run on computers based on ARM processors. The GoSearch22 virus persists on the Mac system via a LaunchAgent and installs itself as an extension to the Safari browser.

GoSearch22 can install a configuration profile on the Mac system to block changes made to the browser settings. Therefore, you need to open system preferences, find and delete the profile installed by the adware software.

Click Apple menu ( ) > System Preferences.

In System Preferences, select Profiles. if there is no Profiles in the list of preferences, that means there are no profiles installed on the Mac computer. If there is Profiles in the list, then click on it, then select a profile associated with GoSearch22.

To delete a malicious profile, click on the minus button ( – ) located at the bottom-left of the Profiles screen.

Open Finder and click “Applications”.

Proceed in the same way as with the “/Library/LaunchAgents” and “/Library/Application Support” folders. Look for suspicious and recently added files. Move all suspicious files to the Trash.

In the “Go to Folder…” window, type the following text and press Go:

Carefully browse the entire list of files and pay special attention to recently created files, as well as files that have a suspicious name. Move all suspicious files to the Trash. A few examples of files to be deleted: com.GoSearch22.plist, com.macsearch.plist, com.search.plist, com.machelper.plist and com.installapp.plist. In most cases, adware software, PUPs and browser hijackers create several files with similar names.
