Remove PUPs through the Windows Control Panel

First, go to Microsoft Windows Control Panel and delete questionable programs, all applications you don’t remember installing. From the “Start” menu in MS Windows, choose “Control Panel”. Under the “Programs” icon, choose “Uninstall a program”.

Select the dubious or any unknown apps, then click “Uninstall/Change” button to remove this unwanted program from your machine.

Click the “Start” button, select “Control Panel” option. Click on “Add/Remove Programs”.

Once the downloading process is complete, close all software and windows on your system. Double-click the install file named Zemana.AntiMalware.Setup. If the “User Account Control” dialog box pops up as displayed on the image below, click the “Yes” button.

It will open the “Setup wizard” which will help you setup Zemana Anti-Malware (ZAM) on your computer. Follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.

Once install is complete successfully, Zemana will automatically start and you can see its main screen like below.

Now press the “Scan” button to begin scanning your PC for the COM surrogate virus and other malware and PUPs. This process may take quite a while, so please be patient. While the Zemana Free application is scanning, you can see how many objects it has identified as threat.

After the downloading process is finished, open the directory in which you saved it and double-click the HitmanPro icon. It will launch the Hitman Pro utility. If the User Account Control dialog box will ask you want to launch the application, click Yes button to continue.

Next, click “Next” for scanning your computer for the COM surrogate virus and other security threats. This procedure may take quite a while, so please be patient. While the utility is scanning, you can see number of objects and files has already scanned.

  2. At the download page, click on the Download button. Your browser will show the “Save as” dialog box. Please save it onto your Windows desktop.
  3. When the download is finished, please close all programs and open windows on your PC. Double-click on the icon that’s called mb3-setup.
  4. This will open the “Setup wizard” of MalwareBytes AntiMalware onto your computer. Follow the prompts and don’t make any changes to default settings.
  5. When the Setup wizard has finished installing, the MalwareBytes Anti-Malware will open and open the main window.
  6. Further, click the “Scan Now” button for checking your system for the COM surrogate virus and other security threats. A scan may take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the count of files on your computer and the speed of your PC. When a threat is detected, the number of the security threats will change accordingly. Wait until the the checking is finished.
  7. When the scanning is done, a list of all threats detected is produced.
  8. Review the scan results and then click the “Quarantine Selected” button. When disinfection is done, you may be prompted to restart the system.
  9. Close the Anti Malware and continue with the next step.

Get rid of COM surrogate virus from Mozilla Firefox

If Mozilla Firefox web browser settings are affected by the COM surrogate virus, then ‘Reset Mozilla Firefox’ could solve this problem. However, your themes, bookmarks, history, passwords, and web form auto-fill information will not be deleted.

First, start the Mozilla Firefox. Next, click the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (Firefox menu button). It will show the drop-down menu. Next, press the Help button (Mozilla Firefox help button).

Confirm your action, click the “Refresh Firefox”.

Remove COM surrogate virus from Internet Explorer

If you find that Internet Explorer web browser settings had been changed by the COM surrogate virus, then you may return your settings, via the reset internet browser procedure.

First, start the Internet Explorer. Next, click the button in the form of gear (Microsoft Internet Explorer tools menu icon). It will open the Tools drop-down menu, press the “Internet Options” as on the image below.

In the “Internet Options” window click on the Advanced tab, then click the Reset button. The Internet Explorer will show the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” window as on the image below. Select the “Delete personal settings” check box, then click “Reset” button.

You will now need to restart your PC system for the changes to take effect.

Remove COM surrogate virus from Google Chrome

Use the Reset browser tool of the Chrome to reset all its settings to original defaults. This is a very useful tool to use, if your PC is infected by COM surrogate virus.

  1. First, run the Chrome and press the Menu icon (icon in the form of three dots).
  2. It will open the Google Chrome main menu. Choose More Tools, then click Extensions.
  3. You’ll see the list of installed extensions. If the list has the extension labeled with “Installed by enterprise policy” or “Installed by your administrator”, then complete the following tutorial: Remove Chrome extensions installed by enterprise policy.
  4. Now open the Chrome menu once again, click the “Settings” menu.
  5. Next, click “Advanced” link, that located at the bottom of the Settings page.
  6. On the bottom of the “Advanced settings” page, click the “Reset settings to their original defaults” button.
  7. The Chrome will display the reset settings prompt as on the image above.
  8. Confirm the web-browser’s reset by clicking on the “Reset” button.

  2. After downloading it, start the downloaded file. You will see the “Setup Wizard” program window. Follow the prompts.
  3. After the installation is finished, click “Skip” to close the installation program and use the default settings, or click “Get Started” to see an quick tutorial that will help you get to know AdGuard better.
