Fix web-browser shortcuts, changed by ‘ad supported’ software

After the ad supported software is started, it can also alter the web browser’s shortcuts, adding an argument such as “http://site.address” into the Target field. Due to this, every time you run the web-browser, it will open an unwanted page.

To clear the browser shortcut, right-click to it and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab, locate the Target field. Click inside, you will see a vertical line – arrow pointer, move it (using -> arrow key on your keyboard) to the right as possible. You will see a text similar to “http://site.address” which has been added here. You need to delete it.

When the text is removed, press the OK button. You need to clean all shortcuts of all your web-browsers, as they may be infected too.

Remove unwanted Scheduled Tasks

If the unwanted Overtraff.com page opens automatically on Windows startup or at equal time intervals, then you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and remove all the tasks which have been created by ‘ad-supported’ applications.

Press Windows and R keys on your keyboard simultaneously. It will show a dialog box that titled with Run. In the text field, type “taskschd.msc” (without the quotes) and click OK. Task Scheduler window opens. In the left-hand side, press “Task Scheduler Library”, as on the image below.

In the middle part you will see a list of installed tasks. Select the first task, its properties will be open just below automatically. Next, click the Actions tab. Necessary to look at the text which is written under Details. Found something such as “explorer.exe http://site.address” or “chrome.exe http://site.address” or “firefox.exe http://site.address”, then you need remove this task. If you are not sure that executes the task, then google it. If it is a component of the unwanted programs, then this task also should be removed.

Repeat this step, if you have found a few tasks that have been created by ‘ad-supported’ program. Once is done, close the Task Scheduler window.

Remove Overtraff.com redirect from FF

If the Firefox settings such as start page, new tab and search provider by default have been changed by the adware, then resetting it to the default state can help.

Start the FF and press the menu button (it looks like three stacked lines) at the top right of the browser screen. Next, click the question-mark icon at the bottom of the drop-down menu. It will open the slide-out menu.

Select the “Troubleshooting information”. If you are unable to access the Help menu, then type “about:support” in your address bar and press Enter. It bring up the “Troubleshooting Information” page as displayed on the image below.

Click the “Refresh Firefox” button at the top right of the Troubleshooting Information page. Select “Refresh Firefox” in the confirmation prompt. The FF will start a process to fix your problems that caused by the adware that reroutes your browser to undesired Overtraff.com web-site. When, it is complete, click the “Finish” button.

By resetting IE web browser you return your browser settings to its default state. This is good initial when troubleshooting problems that might have been caused by adware which cause intrusive Overtraff.com pop up advertisements to appear.

When the process is complete, click “Close” button. Close the Microsoft Internet Explorer and restart your computer for the changes to take effect. This step will help you to restore your web browser’s startpage, newtab page and default search engine to default state.

Remove Overtraff.com pop-up ads from Chrome

If your Google Chrome web-browser is redirected to undesired Overtraff.com web page, it may be necessary to completely reset your web browser program to its default settings.

Open the Google Chrome menu by clicking on the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (Chrome menu button). It will open the drop-down menu. Next, click to “Settings” option.
