Delete Playinghome.com associated software by using Windows Control Panel

It’s of primary importance to first identify and remove all potentially unwanted programs, adware programs and hijackers through ‘Add/Remove Programs’ (Windows XP) or ‘Uninstall a program’ (Windows 10, 8, 7) section of your Microsoft Windows Control Panel.

Clean up the internet browsers shortcuts that have been hijacked by ad-supported software

Unfortunately, the ‘ad supported’ software can also hijack Windows shortcuts (mostly, your browsers shortcuts), so that the Playinghome.com ad site will be opened when you launch the Chrome, Firefox, MS Edge and Internet Explorer or another internet browser.

Right click to a desktop shortcut for your internet browser. Choose the “Properties” option. It will open the Properties window. Select the “Shortcut” tab here, after that, look at the “Target” field. The ‘ad supported’ software can change it. If you are seeing something similar “…exe http://site.address” then you need to remove “http…” and leave only, depending on the web browser you are using:

  • Google Chrome: chrome.exe
  • Opera: opera.exe

Remove Playinghome.com redirect from Google Chrome

If your Chrome browser is re-directed to intrusive Playinghome.com web-page, it may be necessary to completely reset your internet browser program to its default settings.

First run the Google Chrome. Next, press the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (Chrome menu button). It will show the main menu. Further, click the option named “Settings”. Another way to display the Google Chrome’s settings – type chrome://settings in the internet browser adress bar and press Enter.

The Chrome will show the confirmation prompt. You need to confirm your action, click the “Reset” button. The web browser will start the process of cleaning. When it’s finished, the web-browser’s settings including homepage, new tab and search engine by default back to the values that have been when the Google Chrome was first installed on your machine.

If the Firefox settings like newtab page, startpage and search engine by default have been modified by the ad supported software, then resetting it to the default state can help.

First, open the Firefox and click FF menu button button. It will display the drop-down menu on the right-part of the internet browser. Further, click the Help button (FF help button) like below

In the Help menu, select the “Troubleshooting Information” option. Another way to open the “Troubleshooting Information” screen – type “about:support” in the internet browser adress bar and press Enter. It will show the “Troubleshooting Information” page as displayed in the figure below. In the upper-right corner of this screen, press the “Refresh Firefox” button.

It will display the confirmation dialog box. Further, press the “Refresh Firefox” button. The FF will begin a task to fix your problems that caused by the adware which designed to redirect your web-browser to various ad web pages like Playinghome.com. When, it is finished, click the “Finish” button.

Remove Playinghome.com redirect from IE

By resetting Microsoft Internet Explorer web-browser you revert back your web-browser settings to its default state. This is good initial when troubleshooting problems that might have been caused by ‘ad supported’ software which reroutes your browser to unwanted Playinghome.com web page.

If you are not sure that executes the task, then google it. If it’s a component of the ‘ad-supported’ software, then this task also should be removed.

Further click on it with the right mouse button and select Delete as displayed below.

Repeat this step, if you have found a few tasks that have been created by malicious application. Once is finished, close the Task Scheduler window.
