How to remove Palikan

Most often, the Palikan affects most common internet browsers such as Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, IE and MS Edge. But such hijackers as well can infect other web browsers by changing its shortcuts (adding ‘http://site.address’ into Target field of internet browser’s shortcut). How to remove Palikan from computer

Fix infected internet browsers shortcuts

Now you need to clean up the browser shortcuts. Check that the shortcut referring to the right exe-file of the web-browser, and not on any unknown file.

Open the properties of the browser shortcut. Right click on the shortcut of infected web-browser and choose the “Properties” option and it’ll show the properties of the shortcut. Next, choose the “Shortcut” tab and have a look at the Target field as shown below.

Normally, if the last word in the Target field is chrome.exe, iexplore.exe, firefox.exe. Be sure to pay attention to the extension, should be “exe”! All shortcuts which have been altered by browser hijacker infection usually point to .bat, .cmd or .url files instead of .exe as shown below

Another variant, an address has been added at the end of the line. In this case the Target field looks such as …Application\chrome.exe” http://site.address like below.

In order to fix a shortcut, you need to insert right path to the Target field or remove an address (if it has been added at the end). You can use the following information to fix your shortcuts which have been changed by hijacker.

Once is done, press OK to save changes. Repeat the step for all web-browsers which are redirected to the Palikan intrusive web-page.

Remove Palikan from Firefox by resetting web-browser settings

If the FF web browser application is hijacked, then resetting its settings can help. The Reset feature is available on all modern version of Mozilla Firefox. A reset can fix many issues by restoring Mozilla Firefox settings like newtab, startpage and search provider by default to its default state. It will save your personal information such as saved passwords, bookmarks, and open tabs.

First, open the FF. Next, click the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (). It will display the drop-down menu. Next, click the Help button ().

In the Help menu click the “Troubleshooting Information”. In the upper-right corner of the “Troubleshooting Information” page click on “Refresh Firefox” button as on the image below.

Confirm your action, click the “Refresh Firefox”.

Get rid of Palikan from Google Chrome

Use the Reset browser tool of the Google Chrome to reset all its settings such as start page, newtab page and search engine by default to original defaults. This is a very useful utility to use, in the case of browser hijacks such as Palikan.

Open the Chrome menu by clicking on the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (). It will show the drop-down menu. Next, press to “Settings” option.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “Show advanced settings” link. Now scroll down until the Reset settings section is visible, as shown in the figure below and press the “Reset settings” button.

Confirm your action, click the “Reset” button.

Remove Palikan from Microsoft Internet Explorer

In order to restore all internet browser new tab page, startpage and search provider by default you need to reset the Internet Explorer to the state, which was when the Microsoft Windows was installed on your computer.

First, run the Internet Explorer. Next, press the button in the form of gear (). It will open the Tools drop-down menu, press the “Internet Options” as on the image below.

In the “Internet Options” window click on the Advanced tab, then press the Reset button. The Microsoft Internet Explorer will show the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” window like below. Select the “Delete personal settings” check box, then press “Reset” button.

You will now need to restart your system for the changes to take effect.
