How to remove Smart Fortress 2012 virus

Myantispyware team February 29, 2012

Smart Fortress 2012 is a rogue anti-spyware program from the same family of malware as as Security Shield, System Tool, Security Tool, etc. It blocks legitimate antispyware and antivirus tools, hijacks browsers, redirects you to malicious websites, displays numerous fake security alerts and nag screens in order to trick you into thinking your computer is heavy infected. Security Sphere will state that all you have to do in order to cure your computer is purchase the full version of the software. Important to note, the program is unable to detect and remove any infections, so do not pay for the bogus software, simply ignore all that it will display you.

Like other rogues from same family, Smart Fortress 2012 is distributed with the help of trojans or through the use of advertisements which pretends to be an online malware scanner. This advertisement will state that you computer is infected and all you have to do in order to cure your computer is install the software. Important to know, this online scanner is a fake and cannot detect any viruses or infections on your PC. The results that are displayed are totally fabricated!

During installation, Smart Fortress 2012 will configure itself to run automatically every time when Windows loads. Next, it will add a few entries into the HOSTS file so that when you open Google, Yahoo or Bing, you will be redirected to various misleading websites.

When installed, this malware will perform a scan and report a lot of various infections that will not be fixed unless you first purchase the software. Important to know, all of these infections are a fake and do not actually exist on your computer. Thus do not trust the scan results, you should ignore them!

While Smart Fortress 2012 is running, the rogue will display a variety of fake security warnings and alerts that attempt to make you think your computer is infected with all sorts of malicious software.

Moreover, the malicious program blocks legitimate Windows applications claiming that they are infected:

Warning!
Application cannot be executed. The file [filename] is infected.

Thus, you will be unable to run some programs, including antivirus software. Of course, like false scan results above, all of these alerts and messages are just a fake. All of them are created in order to convince you that you must purchase the full version of Smart Fortress 2012 and, thus, fix the entire system. So, you can safely ignore the fake warnings and alerts.

As you can see, Smart Fortress 2012 is a scam that has been created with one purpose – to scare you into thinking that your computer is infected, so you will then purchasing the program. Malwarebytes finds 765 problems but won’t remove them, it just sits there.

We just got infected with Windows Guard and I have downloaded Spyhunter but only the detection is free. I will not need to purchase Spyhunter if your instructions work, correct?

Folks, there is a much easier way.

Simply go to Microsoft.com, then to the download center. Download their malware removal tool. If you’re not sure which one, you can search their site for Smart Fortress, and you’ll be guided to the right one.

It’s free and works right away.

Heads up: I was expecting a FedEx package, and got an email from them telling me there was some sort of weight problem with delivery. It had an .exe file attached that was supposed to be my tracking ticket. Only because I was actually expecting a heavy overseas package, I opened it. That’s what installed the Smart Fortress malware; it also corrupted my AVG antivirus, which did try to quarantine it.

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
TO THOSE who said you can go to microsoft.com, and to add/remove programs.. you obviously have not had the virus.
Smart Fortress 2012, doesn’t ALLOW you to go anywhere on your computer! You CANNOT go to microsoft, and you DEFINITELY CANNOT go to add/remove programs.
This was amazing, and probably saved alot of money and time it would have cost to bring it to a computer studio to get it fixed.

The steps were easy, the links were all there…
    excellent work.
    You have helped many.
