Remove suspicious software by using the Finder

Open Finder and click “Applications”.

After the downloading process is finished, close all apps and windows on your computer. Open a directory in which you saved it. Run the saved file and follow the prompts.

Once install is finished, you will see window as shown on the screen below.

Now click the “Scan” button . MalwareBytes Free tool will start scanning the whole MAC OS to find out the LamePyre malware. A system scan can take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, depending on your MAC. During the scan MalwareBytes will search for threats exist on your Apple Mac.

Delete LamePyre from Safari

By resetting Safari browser you return your internet browser settings to its default state. This is good initial when troubleshooting problems that might have been caused by the LamePyre malware.

Click Safari menu and choose “Preferences”.

It will open the Safari Preferences window. Next, click the “Extensions” tab. Look for unknown and suspicious plugins on left panel, select it, then click the “Uninstall” button. Most important to get rid of all unknown addons from Safari.

Once complete, click “General” tab. Change the “Default Search Engine” to Google.

Find the “Homepage” and type into textfield “https://www.google.com”.

Delete LamePyre virus from Mozilla Firefox

Resetting Mozilla Firefox web browser will reset all the settings to their original state and will remove changes created by LamePyre and disable harmful extensions. When using the reset feature, your personal information like passwords, bookmarks, browsing history and web form auto-fill data will be saved.

Press the Menu button (looks like three horizontal lines), and press the blue Help icon located at the bottom of the drop down menu like below.

Follow the onscreen procedure to revert back your Mozilla Firefox web-browser settings to their default values.

Get rid of LamePyre from Chrome

In order to be sure that there is nothing left behind, we recommend you to reset Google Chrome internet browser. It’ll restore Chrome settings to defaults.

Open the Google Chrome menu by clicking on the button in the form of three horizontal dotes (chrome menu button). It will display the drop-down menu. Select More Tools, then click Extensions.

Carefully browse through the list of installed extensions. If the list has the plugin labeled with “Installed by enterprise policy” or “Installed by your administrator”, then complete the following guide: Remove Chrome extensions installed by enterprise policy otherwise, just go to the step below.

Open the Google Chrome main menu again, click to “Settings” option.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “Advanced” link. Now scroll down until the Reset settings section is visible, as displayed in the following example and click the “Reset settings to their original defaults” button.
