The green5news.net is a web page that redirects your web browser to various ad web pages. If the Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, FF and Microsoft Edge opens this web-page then your system is infected with an ‘ad-supported’ software (also known as adware). The adware is an unwanted software that is going to show you lots of pop-ups and deals. Of course, it is not a malware or virus in the “general meaning” of this word. It’ll not delete or damage your files, but it can alter some PC system’s settings or download and install other harmful programs. Delete suspicious and unknown applications by using Windows Control Panel

Press Windows key windows key, then click Search windows search. Type “Control panel”and press Enter. If you using Windows XP or Windows 7, then press “Start” and select “Control Panel”. It’ll show the Windows Control Panel as shown below.

Next, click “Uninstall a program” remove programs panel
It will show a list of all programs. Scroll through the all list and remove any suspicious and unknown software.

Delete green5news.net ads from Firefox

If the Firefox settings have been modified by the ‘ad supported’ software, then resetting it to the default state can help you to get rid of the redirect onto green5news.net web page.

First, run the Firefox and click Mozilla Firefox menu button button. It will display the drop-down menu on the right-part of the web-browser. Next, click the Help button (Firefox help button) as shown on the screen below.

In the Help menu, select the “Troubleshooting Information” option. Another way to open the “Troubleshooting Information” screen – type “about:support” in the web-browser address bar and press Enter. It will display the “Troubleshooting Information” page as shown on the image below. In the upper-right corner of this screen, press the “Refresh Firefox” button.

It will open the confirmation prompt, click the “Refresh Firefox” button. The Firefox will start a procedure to fix your problems that caused by the ad supported software. Once it’s complete, click the “Finish” button

Get rid of green5news.net from Google Chrome

Open the Chrome menu by clicking on the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (google chrome menu button). It opens the drop-down menu. Next, click the “Settings” option.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “Show advanced settings” link. Now scroll down until the Reset settings section is visible, as shown below and press the “Reset settings” button.

Confirm your action, click the “Reset” button.

Remove green5news.net advertisements from Internet Explorer

To delete the green5news.net redirect you need to reset the Internet Explorer to the state, which was when the Windows was installed on your PC system.

First, start the Microsoft Internet Explorer, then click ‘gear’ icon IE tools menu icon. It will show the drop-down menu on the right part of the internet browser, then click the “Internet Options” as shown on the screen below.

In the “Internet Options” screen, you need to select the “Advanced” tab and click the “Reset” button. The Microsoft Internet Explorer will open the “Reset IE settings” prompt as shown in the figure below. Next, press the “Delete personal settings” check box to select it. After that, click the “Reset” button.

When the process is done, press “Close” button. Close the IE and reboot your PC for the changes to take effect. This step will help you to restore your internet browser’s settings to default state and disable ‘ad-supported’ extensions.

Disinfect the browser’s shortcuts to remove green5news.net redirect

Once the ad-supported software is started, it can also change the web browser’s shortcuts, adding an argument such as “http://site.address” into the Target field. Due to this, every time you launch the web-browser, it will be redirected to an annoying ads.

To clear the browser shortcut, right-click to it and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab, locate the Target field. Click inside, you will see a vertical line – arrow pointer, move it (using -> arrow key on your keyboard) to the right as possible. You will see a text that begins with “http://” that has been added here. You need to remove it.

When the argument is removed, click the OK button. You need to clean all shortcuts of all your web browsers, as they may be infected too.

Delete unwanted Scheduled Tasks

If the unwanted green5news.net web-site opens automatically on Windows startup or at equal time intervals, then you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and get rid of all the tasks that have been created by ‘ad-supported’ applications.

Press Windows and R keys on the keyboard at the same time. This displays a prompt that called Run. In the text field, type “taskschd.msc” (without the quotes) and click OK. Task Scheduler window opens. In the left-hand side, click “Task Scheduler Library”, as shown on the image below.

In the middle part you will see a list of installed tasks. Select the first task, its properties will be display just below automatically. Next, click the Actions tab. Pay attention to that it launches on your personal computer. Found something like “explorer.exe http://site.address” or “chrome.exe http://site.address”, then you need get rid of it. If you are not sure that executes the task, check it through a search engine. If it is a component of the malicious applications, then this task also should be removed.

  2. At the download page, press the Download button. Your web-browser will display the “Save as” prompt. Please save it onto your desktop.
  3. When the download process is finished, please close all applications and open windows on your PC. Double-click on the icon that’s named mb3-setup.
  4. This will launch the Setup wizard of Malwarebytes onto your PC system. Follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  5. When the Setup wizard has finished installing, the malware remover will start and display the main window.
  6. Further, press the “Scan Now” button to begin scanning your PC for the adware that redirects your browser to the green5news.net unwanted page. This task can take quite a while, so please be patient.
  7. When the system scan is complete, it will open a screen that contains a list of malicious software that has been found.
  8. When you are ready, click on “Quarantine Selected” button to begin cleaning your personal computer. Once the procedure is finished, you may be prompted to restart your computer.
  9. Close the Anti-Malware and continue with the next step.
