Remove Counterflix ads from Windows 10, 8, 7 (Chrome, Firefox, IE, Edge)

The Counterflix is classified as an adware. The appearance of Counterflix ads in your web-browser means that your personal computer is infected with this adware (also known as ‘ad-supported’ software), which can inject tons of unwanted ads within the Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, IE and Edge screen or reroute you to an annoying ad web-pages. So, if you have found that your web browser is redirected to an unknown ad web site, then you do not need to wait , you need to follow the step-by-step guide below to clean your computer from the ad supported software and thereby get rid of Counterflix ads as quickly as possible.

Counterflix adware

The malicious programs from the ad supported software family that changes the settings of internet browsers usually affects only the Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer. To remove this ‘ad supported’ software, you can use the manual removal which are given below, or use an anti-malware utility for removing dangerous programs, such as Malwarebytes Anti-malware and AdwCleaner (both are free). Remove suspicious and unknown programs by using Windows Control Panel

We recommend that you begin the PC cleaning process by checking the list of installed software and delete all unknown or suspicious applications. This is a very important step, as mentioned above, very often the malicious software such as ad supported software and browser hijackers may be bundled with freeware. Uninstall the unwanted software may delete the unwanted advertisements or web-browser redirect to unknown or unwanted web sites.

Press Windows key windows key, then click Search windows search. Type “Control panel”and press Enter.

First, click “Start” and select “Control Panel”.

Next, click “Uninstall a program” Delete program panel
It’ll open a list of all software. Scroll through the all list, and uninstall any suspicious and unknown software. To quickly find the latest installed programs, we recommend sort programs by date of installation in the Control panel.

Delete Counterflix advertisements from Chrome

Reset Chrome settings is a simple way to remove the malware and ad-supported software, as well as to restore the browser’s settings that have been modified by ‘ad supported’ software.

  1. Now run the Google Chrome and click Menu button (small button in the form of three horizontal stripes).
  2. It will display the Chrome main menu. Select “Settings” option.
  3. You will see the Google Chrome’s settings page. Scroll down and click “Show advanced settings” link.
  4. Scroll down again and press the “Reset settings” button.
  5. The Google Chrome will show the reset profile settings page as shown on the image above.
  6. Next, click the “Reset” button.
  7. Once this task is finished, your browser’s settings will be restored to their original defaults. This will reset your startpage, new tab page and default search engine.

Remove Counterflix ads from FF

First, launch the Mozilla Firefox. Next, click the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (Firefox menu button). It will display the drop-down menu. Next, click the “Help” button (Firefox help button).

In the Help menu, click the “Troubleshooting Information”. In the upper-right corner of the “Troubleshooting Information” page, click “Refresh Firefox” button.

Confirm your action, press the “Refresh Firefox”.

Delete Ads by Counterflix from Internet Explorer

To remove the Counterflix ads you need to reset the Microsoft Internet Explorer to the state, that was when the Windows was installed on your computer.

First, start the Microsoft Internet Explorer, then click ‘gear’ icon Microsoft Internet Explorer tools menu icon. It will display the drop-down menu on the right part of the web browser, then press the “Internet Options” like below.

In the “Internet Options” screen, you need to select the “Advanced” tab and click the “Reset” button. The IE will display the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” prompt as shown on the image below. Next, press the “Delete personal settings” check box to select it. After that, press the “Reset” button.

Once the process is finished, click “Close” button. Close the Internet Explorer and restart your PC system for the changes to take effect. This step will help you to restore your internet browser’s settings to default state and disable ‘ad-supported’ extensions.

Disinfect the browser’s shortcuts to remove Counterflix redirect

When the adware is started, it can also change the web-browser’s shortcuts, adding an argument similar “http://site.address” into the Target field. Due to this, every time you open the browser, it will be redirected to an annoying ads.

To clear the web-browser shortcut, right-click to it and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab, locate the Target field. Click inside, you will see a vertical line – arrow pointer, move it (using -> arrow key on your keyboard) to the right as possible. You will see a text that begins with “http://” which has been added here. You need to remove it.

When the argument is removed, press the OK button. You need to clean all shortcuts of all your internet browsers, as they may be infected too.

Delete unwanted Scheduled Tasks

Once installed, the adware can add a task in to the Windows Task Scheduler Library. Due to this, every time when you open your system, it will open Counterflix unwanted ads. So, you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and remove all tasks that have been created by malicious program.

Press Windows and R keys on your keyboard together. It will display a prompt which titled as Run. In the text field, type “taskschd.msc” (without the quotes) and click OK. Task Scheduler window opens. In the left-hand side, click “Task Scheduler Library”, as shown below.

In the middle part you will see a list of installed tasks. Select the first task, its properties will be show just below automatically. Next, click the Actions tab. Necessary to look at the text which is written under Details. Found something like “explorer.exe http://site.address” or “chrome.exe http://site.address” or “firefox.exe http://site.address”, then you need get rid of this task. If you are not sure that executes the task, then google it. If it is a component of the ‘ad-supported’ application, then this task also should be removed.

Repeat this step, if you have found a few tasks that have been created by malicious application. Once is finished, close the Task Scheduler window.

Once installed, the Malwarebytes will try to update itself and when this procedure is done, click “Scan Now” button to perform a system scan for the ‘ad supported’ software and malware. When the download is finished, launch the file named adguardInstaller. You will see the “Setup Wizard” screen as shown in the figure below.
