Matrixstar.net pop-ups are a social engineering attack that misleads you and other unsuspecting victims into accepting push notifications via the web-browser. Push notifications are originally developed to alert users of recently published news. Scammers abuse ‘browser notification feature’ to avoid antivirus and ad blocker programs by displaying intrusive adverts. These ads are displayed in the lower right corner of the screen urges users to play online games, visit questionable web sites, install web browser add-ons & so on.

Matrixstar.net

Matrixstar.net is a dubious site that delivers a message stating that you should click ‘Allow’ in order to confirm that you are not a robot (watch a video, enable Flash Player, access the content of the web-site, download a file, connect to the Internet, and so on). Once you click on the ‘Allow’ button, this website gets your permission to send push notifications in form of pop-up advertisements in the right bottom corner of your screen.

  • In the menu tap ‘Settings’, scroll down to ‘Advanced’.
  • Tap on ‘Site settings’ and then ‘Notifications’. In the opened window, locate the Matrixstar.net site, other rogue notifications and tap on them one-by-one.
  • Tap the ‘Clean & Reset’ button and confirm.

  • In the right upper corner, click the Firefox menu (three bars).
  • Choose ‘Options’ and click on ‘Privacy & Security’ on the left hand side of the Firefox.
  • Scroll down to ‘Permissions’ and then to ‘Settings’ next to ‘Notifications’.
  • Locate sites you down’t want to see notifications from (for example, Matrixstar.net), click on drop-down menu next to each and select ‘Block’.
  • Click ‘Save Changes’ button.

After the download is finished, close all windows on your PC. Further, run the file named MBSetup. If the “User Account Control” prompt pops up as shown on the screen below, press the “Yes” button.
