The updaterec.com is an unwanted site offering to install questionable software. Most often, the webpage pops up on computer that’s infected with adware (sometimes called ‘ad-supported’ software). First, you should try to identify and remove the program that causes the appearance of annoying advertisements and browser redirect to unwanted sites, using the ‘Uninstall a program’ which is located in the ‘Control panel’.

Remove updaterec.com pop-ups from Chrome

Like other modern internet browsers, the Chrome has the ability to reset the settings to their default values and thereby remove the redirect to updaterec.com annoying ads that is caused by the adware.

At first, start the Google Chrome. Next, press the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (google chrome menu button). It will appear the main menu. Click on the option named “Settings”. Another way to show the Google Chrome’s settings – type chrome://settings in the browser adress bar and press Enter.

The web-browser will display the settings screen. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “Show advanced settings” link. Now scroll down until the “Reset settings” section is visible, as shown below and click the “Reset settings” button.

The Google Chrome will display the confirmation prompt. You need to confirm your action, click the “Reset” button. The program will launch the task of cleaning. Once it’s finished, the internet browser settings including the ‘block pop-ups’ option back to the values that have been when the Chrome was first installed on your computer.

Remove updaterec.com from Microsoft Internet Explorer

First, start the Internet Explorer, then click the button in the form of gear (IE tools menu icon). It will open the Tools drop-down menu as shown below. Next, click the “Internet Options”.

In the Internet Options window click on the Advanced tab, then click the Reset button. The Microsoft Internet Explorer will show the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” window as shown in the figure below. Select the “Delete personal settings” check box, then press on “Reset” button.

You will now need to restart your machine for the changes to take effect.

Disinfect the browser’s shortcuts to remove updaterec.com redirect

Click the right mouse button to a desktop shortcut which you use to open your web-browser. Next, select the “Properties” option. Important: necessary to click on the desktop shortcut for the web-browser which is redirected to the updaterec.com or other annoying web-page.

Further, necessary to look at the text which is written in the “Target” field. Once the step is finished, we recommend to go to the next step.

Delete unwanted Scheduled Tasks

If the unwanted updaterec.com web-site opens automatically on Windows startup or at equal time intervals, then you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and get rid of all the tasks that have been created by adware.

Press Windows and R keys on the keyboard together. This opens a prompt that called Run. In the text field, type “taskschd.msc” (without the quotes) and click OK. Task Scheduler window opens. In the left-hand side, click “Task Scheduler Library”, as shown on the screen below.

In the middle part you will see a list of installed tasks. Select the first task, its properties will be show just below automatically. Next, click the Actions tab. Pay attention to that it launches on your PC. Found something like “explorer.exe http://site.address” or “chrome.exe http://site.address”, then you need delete it. If you are not sure that executes the task, check it through a search engine. If it’s a component of the ‘ad-supported’ programs, then this task also should be removed.

Having defined the task that you want to remove, then click on it with the right mouse button and select Delete as shown on the screen below.

Repeat this step, if you have found a few tasks that have been created by adware. Once is complete, close the Task Scheduler window.

How to delete updaterec.com with free malware remover

  3. This will open the install of Malwarebytes. Next, click Next button and follow the prompts.
