Scam Alert: 8058335580 Targeting PNC Bank Customers with Approve/Decline Scam (805-833-5580)

Myantispyware team April 8, 2023

Attention all readers: we have recently discovered a new variant of the PNC Approve/Decline Scam that is targeting individuals with text messages claiming to be from PNC Bank. The message reads, “(PNC- New Transaction of $55.42 – Call 8058335580 – us today) to approve/decline“, and it asks the recipient to call a phone number to approve or decline the transaction. The sender appears to be PNC{Alert}. This scam has appeared in the last few days and is rapidly spreading to everyone, not only PNC Bank customers.

PNC New Transaction Text Scam

It is essential to note that this message is fraudulent and not from PNC Bank. Scammers are using various tactics to trick individuals into divulging their personal and financial information. If you are not a PNC Bank customer and receive this message, please disregard it. If you are a PNC Bank customer, do not call the phone number listed in the message. Instead, contact PNC Bank directly at 1-888-PNC-BANK (1-888-762-2265) to confirm the authenticity of the message.

In the past, we have seen several variations of this scam, including messages claiming an attempted transaction, an unusual transaction, or a pending transaction. The new variation, as seen in the example above, claims a new transaction of $55.42. However, the goal remains the same: scammers want to steal your personal and financial information to commit fraud.

We urge all readers to be vigilant and cautious when receiving messages from unknown sources. If you receive a message that appears suspicious or out of the ordinary, take the time to investigate it further. Do not click on any links or call any phone numbers unless you are certain of their authenticity.

For more information on the different variants of this scam and how to protect yourself, please read our comprehensive article on the PNC Approve/Decline Scam. Remember to stay safe and protect your personal and financial information from scammers.
