In the “Internet Options” screen, select the “Advanced” tab, then press the “Reset” button. The Internet Explorer will display the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” dialog box. Further, click the “Delete personal settings” check box to select it. Next, click the “Reset” button like the one below.

Once the process is complete, click “Close” button. Close the IE and reboot your computer for the changes to take effect. This step will help you to restore your internet browser’s search engine, newtab page and home page to default state.

Get rid of Retina Defense adware from Firefox

If the Firefox browser is hijacked by Retina Defense and you want to restore the Firefox settings back to their default state, then you should follow the guide below. However, your saved bookmarks and passwords will not be lost. This will not affect your history, passwords, bookmarks, and other saved data.

First, start the Mozilla Firefox and click Mozilla Firefox menu button button. It will display the drop-down menu on the right-part of the browser. Further, click the Help button (Firefox help button) such as the one below.

Another way to open the “Troubleshooting Information” screen – type “about:support” in the internet browser adress bar and press Enter. It will open the “Troubleshooting Information” page as displayed in the figure below. In the upper-right corner of this screen, click the “Refresh Firefox” button.

It will open the confirmation dialog box. Further, click the “Refresh Firefox” button. The Mozilla Firefox will start a task to fix your problems that caused by the adware. Once, it’s done, click the “Finish” button.

Remove Retina Defense from Google Chrome

If adware, other program or extensions modified your Google Chrome settings without your knowledge, then you can remove Retina Defense and revert back your internet browser settings in Chrome at any time. Your saved bookmarks, form auto-fill information and passwords won’t be cleared or changed.

First start the Chrome. Next, click the button in the form of three horizontal dots (Google Chrome menu button).

It will open the Google Chrome menu. Choose More Tools, then click Extensions. Carefully browse through the list of installed extensions. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and press the “Advanced” link. Now scroll down until the “Reset” section is visible, as on the image below and click the “Reset settings to their original defaults” button.

You need to confirm your action, click the “Reset” button. The web-browser will start the procedure of cleaning. Once it’s finished, the internet browser’s settings including default search provider, start page and newtab page back to the values that have been when the Google Chrome was first installed on your PC.

Once installation is complete successfully, click “Get Started” button. Then MalwareBytes will automatically start and you may see its main window as displayed in the following example.

Next, click the “Scan” button to perform a system scan with this utility for the Retina Defense adware. A system scan may take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, depending on your computer. While the MalwareBytes Free tool is scanning, you may see number of objects it has identified as being infected by malware.
