Remove Coinhive related programs through the Control Panel of your computer

It’s of primary importance to first identify and remove all potentially unwanted programs, extension software and hijacker infections through ‘Add/Remove Programs’ (Windows XP) or ‘Uninstall a program’ (Windows 10, 8, 7) section of your Microsoft Windows Control Panel.

Very carefully look around the entire list of apps installed on your computer. Most likely, one of them is the Coinhive malware that developed to mine digital money. If you have many apps installed, you can help simplify the search of malicious programs by sort the list by date of installation. Once you’ve found a dubious, unwanted or unused program, right click to it, after that click ‘Uninstall’.

First, click ‘Start’ button and select ‘Control Panel’ at right panel like below.

You will see a list of applications installed on your PC system. We recommend to sort the list by date of installation to quickly find the programs that were installed last. Delete unwanted Scheduled Tasks

Once installed, the Coinhive virus can add a task in to the Windows Task Scheduler Library. Due to this, every time when you start your PC, it will start a process of crypto currencies mining. So, you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and get rid of all malicious tasks that have been created by malicious software.

Press Windows and R keys on your keyboard at the same time. It will open a dialog box that titled as Run. In the text field, type “taskschd.msc” (without the quotes) and press OK. Task Scheduler window opens. In the left-hand side, press “Task Scheduler Library”, as on the image below.

In the middle part you will see a list of installed tasks. Select the first task, its properties will be display just below automatically. Next, click the Actions tab. Necessary to look at the text which is written under Details. Found something suspicious, then you need remove this task. If you are not sure that executes the task, then google it. If it is a component of the malicious applications, then this task also should be removed.

Further click on it with the right mouse button and select Delete as displayed in the figure below.

Repeat this step, if you have found a few tasks that have been created by the Coinhive virus malware. Once is finished, close the Task Scheduler window.

Remove Coinhive from Internet Explorer

If you find that IE browser settings such as search engine by default, home page and new tab having been replaced by Coinhive virus, then you may revert back your settings, via the reset web-browser procedure.

First, open the IE. Next, click the button in the form of gear (Internet Explorer tools menu icon). It will show the Tools drop-down menu, press the “Internet Options” like below.

In the “Internet Options” window click on the Advanced tab, then click the Reset button. The Internet Explorer will show the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” window as shown in the following example. Select the “Delete personal settings” check box, then press “Reset” button.

You will now need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Remove Coinhive from Firefox

Resetting your Mozilla Firefox is good initial troubleshooting step for any issues with your internet browser application. Essential information like bookmarks, browsing history, passwords, cookies, auto-fill data and personal dictionaries will not be removed.

Click the Menu button (looks like three horizontal lines), and press the blue Help icon located at the bottom of the drop down menu as shown on the image below.

Follow the onscreen procedure to return your Firefox internet browser settings to their default state.

Remove Coinhive from Google Chrome

Reset Google Chrome settings is a simple way to delete the hijackers, malicious and ‘ad-supported’ extensions, as well as to restore the web browser’s new tab page, startpage and default search engine that have been changed by Coinhive malware.

First start the Google Chrome. Next, click the button in the form of three horizontal dots (Google Chrome menu button).

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and press the “Advanced” link. Now scroll down until the “Reset” section is visible, like below and press the “Reset settings to their original defaults” button.

You need to confirm your action, click the “Reset” button. The web browser will launch the task of cleaning. Once it’s finished, the web-browser’s settings including homepage, search provider and newtab back to the values that have been when the Chrome was first installed on your PC system.
