How to remove Search-NewTab ads [Chrome, Firefox, IE, Edge]

The Search-NewTab advertisements should not be underestimated, because the reason for their appearance within your internet browser is penetration an adware (also known as ‘ad-supported’ software) into your PC. It can bring a security risk to your PC system. So, do not ignore it! Once started, the Search-NewTab adware will displays lots of intrusive and annoying ads, even without your permission and desire to see it. The unwanted ads can be just the beginning, because your machine is hijacked by malicious software, so the amount of advertisements in the future may increase. Its appearance will prevent you normally browse the web sites, and more, can lead to crash the internet browser.

Most often, the ad-supported software affects the most common web browsers like the Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge. But such the dangerous software as well may infect another web browsers by changing its shortcuts (adding an argument like ‘http://site.address’ into Target field of a web browser’s shortcut). So every time you open the browser, it will redirect to the unwanted Search-NewTab ads. Even if you setup a new homepage, an unwanted page will be the first thing you see when you start the Firefox, Chrome, IE and Microsoft Edge.

The ad-supported software is not a virus, but the virus behaves similarly. As a rootkit hides in the system, changes browser settings and blocks them from changing. Also the adware can install additional web browser extensions, addons and modules that will inject ads within the Google Chrome, FF, MS Edge and Microsoft Internet Explorer’s screen. Moreover, the ‘ad supported’ software may install internet browser hijacker that once started, will change the internet browser’s start page and search engine. And finally, the adware can collect a wide variety of personal information such as what sites you are opening, what you are looking for the Internet and so on. This information, in the future, may be transferred to third parties.

Instructions, which is shown below, will allow you to clean your system from the adware as well as remove Search-NewTab annoying popup ads from the Chrome, Firefox, IE and MS Edge and other web browsers.

How can you prevent your PC from the attack of Search-NewTab pop-up ads

The adware spreads along with various free software, as a supplement, which is installed automatically. This is certainly not an honest way to get installed onto your machine. In order to avoid infecting of your PC system and side effects in the form of the Search-NewTab unwanted ads, you should always carefully read the ‘Terms of Use’ and the ‘Software license’. Additionally, always select Manual, Custom or Advanced install mode. This allows you to disable the install of unnecessary and often harmful software.

How to manually remove Search-NewTab ads

This steps will help you remove Search-NewTab pop-ups. These Search-NewTab removal steps work for the Chrome, FF, MS Edge and Internet Explorer, as well as every version of Windows operating system. Uninstall suspicious and unknown programs by using Windows Control Panel

Press Windows key windows key, then click Search windows search. Type “Control panel”and press Enter. If you using Windows XP or Windows 7, then click “Start” and select “Control Panel”. It’ll show the Windows Control Panel as shown on the image below.

Next, click “Uninstall a program” uninstall software panel
It’ll show a list of all software. Scroll through the all list and uninstall any suspicious and unknown software.

Remove Search-NewTab pop-up ads from Mozilla Firefox

First, run the Mozilla Firefox. Next, press the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (FF menu button). It will display the drop-down menu. Next, click the “Help” button (Mozilla Firefox help button).

In the Help menu, press the “Troubleshooting Information”. In the upper-right corner of the “Troubleshooting Information” page, click “Refresh Firefox” button.

Confirm your action, click the “Refresh Firefox”.

Delete Search-NewTab ads from Chrome

Open the Google Chrome menu by clicking on the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (google chrome menu button). It opens the drop-down menu. Next, click the “Settings” option.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “Show advanced settings” link. Now scroll down until the Reset settings section is visible, like below and press the “Reset settings” button.

Confirm your action, press the “Reset” button.

Get rid of Ads by Search-NewTab from Internet Explorer

First, start the IE, then click Internet Explorer tools menu icon button. Next, click “Internet Options” as shown on the screen below.

In the “Internet Options” screen select the Advanced tab. Next, click the “Reset” button. The Internet Explorer will display the “Reset Internet Explorer” settings prompt. Select the “Delete personal settings” check box and press Reset button.

You will now need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. It will restore the Internet Explorer’s settings like home page, newtab page and search provider by default to default state, disable ad-supported web-browser’s extensions and thereby get rid of the Search-NewTab unwanted ads.

Disinfect the browser’s shortcuts

Once the adware is started, it can also change the browser’s shortcuts, adding an argument like “http://site.address” into the Target field. Due to this, every time you run the web browser, it will be redirected to an annoying ads.

To clear the internet browser shortcut, right-click to it and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab, locate the Target field. Click inside, you will see a vertical line – arrow pointer, move it (using -> arrow key on your keyboard) to the right as possible. You will see a text which begins with “http://” that has been added here. You need to remove it.

When the argument is removed, click the OK button. You need to clean all shortcuts of all your internet browsers, as they may be infected too.

Delete unwanted Scheduled Tasks

If the annoying Search-NewTab ads opens automatically on Windows startup or at equal time intervals, then you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and remove all the tasks that have been created by malicious application.

Press Windows and R keys on the keyboard at the same time. This shows a dialog box that called Run. In the text field, type “taskschd.msc” (without the quotes) and click OK. Task Scheduler window opens. In the left-hand side, click “Task Scheduler Library”, as shown on the screen below.

In the middle part you will see a list of installed tasks. Select the first task, its properties will be show just below automatically. Next, click the Actions tab. Pay attention to that it launches on your PC. Found something like “explorer.exe http://site.address” or “chrome.exe http://site.address”, then you need remove it. If you are not sure that executes the task, check it through a search engine. If it is a component of the unwanted software, then this task also should be removed.

Having defined the task that you want to get rid of, then press on it with the right mouse button and select Delete as shown on the image below.

Repeat this step, if you have found a few tasks that have been created by malicious software. Once is complete, close the Task Scheduler window.

Remove Search-NewTab advertisements with Malwarebytes

Once downloaded, close all applications and windows on your system. Open a directory in which you saved it. Double-click on the icon that’s named mb3-setup like below.

How to block Ads by Search-NewTab
