What is Youtube-to-mp3.org
Youtube-to-mp3.org is a website that is advertised as a site that allows the user to convert YouTube videos to MP3. But the security experts warn that using Youtube-to-mp3.org and similar sites is quite dangerous. There are several reasons for this. First of all, the use of such sites violates the YouTube rules, which prohibit directly downloading videos. Second, even more important, Youtube-to-mp3.org uses rogue ad networks. The security researchers determined that rogue ad networks redirect users to web pages that are not trustworthy, as they are designed to deceive users. Moreover, some websites to which users can be redirected are used to promote potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), force the user to install malicious browser extensions or subscribe to spam notifications.
Youtube-to-mp3.org displays the Show notifications prompt that attempts to get the user to click the ‘Allow’ to subscribe to push notifications. If the user click on the ‘Allow’, the Youtube-to-mp3.org web page starts sending lots of ads on the browser screen. The user will see the pop up adverts even when the browser is closed. The makers of this website use these push notifications to bypass protection against pop-ups in the browser and therefore display unwanted adverts. These ads are used to promote dubious internet browser extensions, prize & lottery scams, adware software bundles, and adult websites.
During the research, Youtube-to-mp3.org redirected users to hemtatch.net, gearbest.com, aliexpress.com, triumphantplace.com, other unwanted and suspicious sites. Of course, in addition to the websites shown above, this website can redirect users to other dangerous sites, among which there may be sites offering to install PUPs, browser hijackers and adware. Browser hijacker is a malware that changes browser settings such as homepage and search engine. Adware is form of malware which shows unwanted advertising on a computer, redirects search requests to advertising web sites.
