ComboFix another free anti spyware tool

ComboFix is a program written by sUBs, that removes spyware, malware, rogue antispyware apps and Vundo infections. Also it deletes a bunch of files related to the infections and is updated fairly regularly. When Combofix finished, it will produce a report for you. Power user can use the report to search and remove infections that are not automatically removed.

How to use combofix:

Temporarily disable your antispyware, antivirus and any antimalware real-time protection, so they may interfere with running of ComboFix.
Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.
Close all programs. Your Task Bar should be clear of any program entries including your Internet Browser.
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop. Even when ComboFix appears to be doing nothing, look at your “drive access” light. If it is flashing, Combofix is still at work.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix’s window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Questions and Answers:
1. I ran combofix which can affect autorun so now autorun and autoplay is not working.

Combofix prevents autorun of all CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. Read how to disable/enable autorun and autoplay.

2. No internet connection after running Combofix.

Restart your computer to restore back your connection. If it does not work, then click Start ->Settings -> Control Panel. Double click to Network connections. Locate your connection and right click on it. In the menu click to Repair option. When repair proccess has finished, your connection should be working again.

3. I ran combofix and got error message saying “This copy of combofix has expired”.

Download an updated copy from here or change your PC system time to some days ago (7days for example). Warning, only if first option don`t work.

4. How to uninstall combofix.

After using Combofix, you may uninstall it from your PC. Read how to uninstall combofix.

5. What should i do with QooBox and Combofix files ?

Use command: combofix /u for uninstalling of combofix and removing all combofix files and QooBox directory. Read more here

I strongly suggest that you post your log at My AntiSpyware Forum and finally remove the items as directed by the Member helping you. This involves no analysis of the list contents by you. That will be done by the Help Forum Staff.

having problems removing spyware/adware. running windows xp. homepage gets hijackt by software page and also security alerts popin up to inform of spyware n harmful materials also spyware cleaner ..ect. icons show up on desktop. use combo fix but keeps coming back. please help. can post or send log from combo fix

Went crazy for 2 days trying to get rid of Vundo on my laptop. None of the bigger names including McAffe was able to do it. Finally I found this in a forum and tried it and it took care of it. If you have the Vundo Trojan, this is it Look no further! Great job!!!!!

Great tool, with a small draw back sometimes will find and remove hal.dll which is not good.
BSOD. But other than that this tool will get just about any rootkit (excluding mbr rootkits) out of the kernal that gmer wont get.

Great tool. Helped me remove Trojan.Vundo from Win XP SP2, when other GREAT tools could not do so. I wonder if there is a similar tool for Win 2003 SP1 also?

I have a problem with my yahoo messenger. Each time i login, it just disappears. I was told that if i have the combofix software i can use it to resolve my problem.

John, probably it`s not spyware/malware problem. Try to reinstall yahoo messenger.

this is a great program, i recently used a version (not sure wich version it was, i had to set my date back to 9 july 2008 then run it) only thing i noticed was it left my Cookie settings at “Accept All cookies” wich i thought ide mention because for noobs leaving that setting off (defeats the object of running this in the first place) so if your new to this, after you run it, just give your settings a once over incase anythings changed (mainly cookies & empty temp net options)

10-12 hours for the scan, it`s many more. Try to run Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware before combofix.

Have run this twice now letting it run the last time for over 24 hours. The message never changes from

“Preparing log reports, Do not run any programs…”

Any ideas? I would be happy if it finished.

well, perhaps it froze when i clicked with the mouse to bring back the screen (monitor power saving). Anyways, I eventually rebooted, and the pc is working as it should. Time will tell if it cleaned out everything or not, but so far, it’s like it’s new again.

My PC was infected with the Vundo Virus. I tried everything to remove it. Then, I tried ComboFix and the Vundo Virus was removed after the scan. This is a awesome little program.

This really good program removed the rootkit TDSSserv.sys files and some other bits n bobs! ran them over both pcs and its found allsorts of dll files and things its really good indeed.

Hatsoff to combofix!!!
i had tried almost all of the antivirus(mcafee. panda .nod32, symantic trndmicro ) & antimalware softwares for removing ckvo.exe malware but failed everytime ,as it replicates itself again on booting . Combofix is the most wonderful utility for removing most of the nasty malwares including ckvo.exe. This malware has no cure aceept combofix .none of the antivirus software could remove this deadly malware.
